Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our team in organizing and executing the Toronto Animation Arts Festival International. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the festival, including programming, fundraising, marketing, operations, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will have a passion for film and a proven track record of leadership in the arts or entertainment industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the festival, in collaboration with the Board of Directors and key stakeholders.

  • Work with the Director of Programming to curate a diverse and compelling program of films, ensuring high quality and relevance to our audience.

  • Cultivate relationships with filmmakers, distributors, sponsors, and industry partners to enhance the festival's reputation and reach.

  • Lead fundraising efforts to secure sponsorship, grants, and donations to support the festival's operations and growth.

  • Manage the festival budget and ensure financial sustainability through prudent fiscal management.

  • Oversee all aspects of festival operations, including but not limited to venue selection, technical production, volunteer coordination, and guest hospitality.

  • Curate and manage the TAAFI News Blog, including booking writers, hosting and managing recurring virtual events, booking and managing advertising

  • Lead a team of staff and volunteers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure the successful execution of the festival.

  • Serve as spokesperson for the festival, representing our mission and values to the media, the public, and the industry.

  • Travel or support team travel to major animation festivals and events throughout the year and be present at key online events.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in animation, arts administration, business, events management or related fields.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role in the film industry, arts administration, and/or event management.

  • Proven track record of successful fundraising, with experience securing sponsorship, grants, and donations.

  • Strong network of contacts in the film industry, including filmmakers, distributors, and industry professionals.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans while managing day-to-day operations effectively.

  • Creative vision and passion for film, with a commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and artistic excellence.
