The Toronto Animation Arts Festival International is an annual celebration of cinematic art, showcasing a diverse selection of films from around the world. As a platform for both established and emerging filmmakers, we aim to promote cultural exchange and artistic innovation through the power of storytelling. We have a rich history of building incredible events that inspire, educate, and celebrate our industry and the individual artists and creators working in this space.

Job Overview:

As a Board Member, you will play a key role in shaping the vision and long-term sustainability of the festival. This is a governance-level position, focused on strategic oversight, advocacy, and fundraising, not day-to-day management. Board members serve as ambassadors for the festival, leveraging their networks, expertise, and passion for animation to help us thrive

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance on the festival’s mission, growth, and community impact.

  • Serve as an advocate for the festival within professional and personal networks.

  • Support fundraising initiatives through donor engagement, sponsorship outreach, or grant connections.

  • Attend board meetings (typically 10 times per year) and participate in committees as needed.

  • Contribute to policy, governance, and long-term planning discussions.

  • Assist with audience development and community partnerships

Time Commitment

  • 1.5-2 hours for board meetings once per month (10 of 12 months)

  • 2-4 hours per month for committee meetings if serving on a committee

  • Attendance at TAAFI events

  • Optional: TAAFI is often invited to participate in industry events (CASO AGM, YMA 5a7, OIAF, etc.) throughout the year. Our presence is recommended but not required. We always try to ensure at least one representative from our organization can attend.

Qualifications:

We are seeking individuals with a demonstrated commitment to the arts, community engagement, and/or cultural development. Expertise in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable:

  • Film, animation, or creative industries

  • Fundraising, sponsorship, or philanthropy

  • Nonprofit governance and financial oversight

  • Law

  • Marketing, communications, or public relations

  • Community engagement, diversity, and inclusion initiatives

Previous board experience is an asset, but not required. Passion for animation and the arts is essential.

Term & Commitment:

  • Board members serve a two-year renewable term.

  • Expected time commitment: approximately 2-4 hours/month, including meetings, and committee work. Festival attendance is separate.

  • This is a volunteer position (unpaid).
