TAAFI Workshop: Animated Filmmaking Techniques & Software Knowledge presented by The Animation Lounge

This workshop from The Animation Lounge introduces participants to the creative and technical foundations needed to succeed in today’s animation industry. Using Toon Boom Harmony — widely used in professional studios — the session explores how artists transform ideas into animated stories through a production pipeline that blends art, storytelling, and technology.

Through project-based learning demonstrations, participants will discover how different roles in animation come together to create a finished film. The workshop highlights core areas of the pipeline including storyboarding, character design, rigging, animation, compositing, and production management, while showing how Harmony functions as the backbone of many modern 2D workflows.

Designed to bridge the gap between creativity and technical skills, this session also highlights pathways into animation careers — whether through post-secondary education or by developing practical skills independently. Workshops like these aim to help aspiring artists understand how the industry works and how they can begin building the skills needed to pursue animation professionally.

Perfect for students and newcomers to animation, this workshop provides a welcoming entry point into the tools, mindset, and collaborative process behind professional animation production.

NOTE: TAAFI Workshops are separately ticketed events from our TAIC Conference / Film Festival and require separate purchase.
