James Robinson

James Robinson is an Emmy Award-winning sound designer and Emmy-nominated re-recording mixer, and the founder of Mercenary Audio Inc. With over 25 years of experience in sound, James began his career at the age of 16 working in local music studios in Toronto, before studying at Fanshawe College in London Ontario, and transitioning into post-production in 2005. He brings a deep and practical understanding of audio across animation, television, film, and commercial production.

He has collaborated with leading studios, agencies, and production companies, including Sinking Ship Entertainment, Skyship Entertainment, Tinman Creative, Wanted! Sound + Picture, diFuse, SuperSonics Post Production, and Spence-Thomas Audio Post. His work has earned him an Emmy Award and multiple nominations, reflecting a consistent ability to deliver high-quality, story-driven sound across a wide range of productions.

James brings a highly adaptable approach to audio, with experience spanning on-set recording, post-production, music tracking, and vocal production. Through Mercenary Audio Inc., and now Pixel+Pop, he applies a philosophy rooted in resilience, precision, and creative problem-solving, shaped by decades of independent work in a constantly evolving industry.

In addition to his production work, James is focused on developing modern, scalable audio teams, workflows and multi-purpose studio environments designed to support animation pipelines and remote collaboration.
